The Taekwondo Photography Project explores the dynamic and artistic facets of this martial art through experimental lighting techniques. Over several sessions, I captured Taekwondo practitioner in action, focusing on how different lighting setups can enhance the visual impact of their movements. By experimenting with various light sources, angles, and intensities, I aimed to highlight the fluidity, power, and discipline inherent in Taekwondo. Soft lighting was used to create dramatic contrasts and shadows, emphasising the muscle definition and precision of each kick and punch. High-intensity lights were positioned to freeze rapid movements, capturing the explosive energy and agility of the athletes. The resulting photographs reveal the intersection of sport and art, capturing both the strength and grace of martial artists. This project aims to provide a fresh perspective on Taekwondo, offering viewers a new appreciation for its aesthetic qualities through the creative use of lighting in photography.
